Strengthening Africa’s Strategic Agricultural Capacity for Impact on Development (SASACID) 

The overall objective of SASACID is to:

  • Raise the quality and relevance of agricultural education at the tertiary level to encompass the cross-cutting issues that are pertinent to attaining sustainable and profitable agriculture.
  • Developing new cadres of professionals capable of assuming key roles in national, regional and international agricultural science, extension, business and policy

The development impacts expected from the programme include:

  • Have graduates who will be successful farmers and business persons and farmers to have access to high quality and relevant advice leading to improved productivity, marketing and incomes
  • Develop a new culture by African Agricultural Scientists to develop and apply contextual learning
  • Have stronger local agricultural institutions with improved synergy
  • Have effective development of markets, agricultural industries and job creation
  • Have increased profitability of Africa’s agricultural enterprises
  • Reduced risks and uncertainty for producers; enhanced capacity to predict unfavourable events
  • Well-informed farmers, industries, policy-makers and traders, enabling informed choices
  • Revitalised agricultural productivity in fragile countries.
