Strengthening the Capacity of Agricultural Research for Development

The purpose of the programme Strengthening Capacity for Agricultural Research and Development in Africa (SCARDA) is “to strengthen the institutional and human capacity of African agricultural research and development systems to identify, generate and deliver research outputs that meet the needs of poor people”.

The programme consists of two components:

  1. Strengthening competencies in agricultural research management and
  2. Strengthening capacity for continuous professional development in agricultural research and development

SCARDA works through sub-regional organisations. The sub-regional organisations then choose Lead Service Providers (LSPs). In the SADC region, ANAFE was selected as the LSP.

The strategy adopted by ANAFE is that by each activity and output identification it facilitates the choice of service provider; monitors implementation of activity; Assesses reports; Monitors and evaluates project implementation and ensures that lessons learnt are integrated into a learning platform. In addition in these activities, ANAFE has also established an Advisory Committee which facilitates implementation of activities.
